Our Story

Bawburgh Golf Club was established in 1979 by Alan Barnard as a 9 hole course, designed by himself and Bert Kelly (former professional golfer). The course was a par 33 and 2577 yards in length. In 1991, Alan and his wife, Kate, expanded Bawburgh Golf Club further, developing it into an 18 hole golf course, par 70. Shortly after, in 1994, we saw the addition of Glen Lodge Clubhouse. Over the years they both contributed to the growth of golf in Norfolk. During this time, Alan provided Norfolk with the Barnard Trophy, an annual competition for senior golfers. Alan and Kate still took an interest in Bawburgh Golf Club right up to their final years, visiting for lunch and helping out at the annual Barnard Charity Golf Day. Alan and Kate’s son, Robert Barnard, carries on their legacy as managing director and instructed the additions of the company's 9 hole course and driving range. Robert’s daughter, Krissy, is our business manager, and Jamie is our operations manager. They recently designed and constructed Glen Lodge's new wedding venue, which opened in April 2019. In memory of Alan and Kate who both sadly passed away in 2018, they named the Barnard Suite after them.

Rob Wilkinson

PGA Professional

I specialise in teaching junior golf lessons. I have been a PGA professional for 3 years, qualifying in 2015. I enjoy playing in local and east region tournaments. I have built a strong junior academy at Norwich Family Golf Centre for a wide range of ages that now has links to Norfolk County Golf, as I am a Norfolk county coach.

I enjoy teaching a wide range of golfing abilities from the absolute beginner to the experienced golfer. One of only a few qualified Trackman 4 tutors in the east region, I actively use this along with video technology to deliver my golf lessons.

Prior to completing my PGA qualification, I was a custom fit specialist for Titleist, TaylorMade, Mizuno, Ping and Callaway. I continue to offer this service through Peter Field Golf Shop.

Jasmine Campbell

Assistant PGA Professional

Jasmine is an assistant PGA professional who is currently in year 2 undertaking her PGA degree to become a fully qualified coach.

She started working at Peter Field Golf Shop in 2016 after leaving school and wanting to pursue her passion for golf.

After 6 successful years of amateur golf representing her county and country at national level and 2 years of working in the golfing industry, Jasmine decided she wanted to further her career and enthusiasm for teaching and helping others and decided to start her PGA degree.

Although Jasmine loves playing competitively and plays on the WPGA Tour and many regional Pro-Ams, her real passion has always been coaching. With the facilities that she has available to her she recognises that to increase and maintain participation within the game is incredibly rewarding and will continue to improve and expand her knowledge as much as she can.

With already extensive experience gained from working here at Peter Field Golf she has already seen fantastic gains with the clients she’s working with.

As well as coaching, Jasmine has also attended Golf Lab performance fitting workshop which has extended her knowledge on all the latest golfing equipment and helped her develop her custom fitting service further.

Jasmine’s goal for both lessons and fittings is to make it as relaxed, enjoyable and informative as possible while also making it simple and clear to understand.

The rule of 3 is relatable when having a lesson with Jasmine as the maximum number of tips you will walk away with is always 3 to make it as easy to remember and put into practice!

Mark Spooner

PGA Professional

I started playing golf in Norwich, Norfolk when I was the tender age of 10 with my dad. Having golf lessons on a regular basis and practising hard daily enabled me to turn pro at 16 and pass my final golf exam at 19. I have won various Pro-Ams, but my main achievements are Midland Under 21 Champion, Norfolk Professional Champion, and Norfolk Open Champion.

I love teaching golf lessons. My passion is golf and being able to pass my knowledge and skills onto budding golfers through my golf lessons is my dream come true.

Come and see me at The Family Golf Centre. I’ll book you in for your first golf lessons and you’ll be playing the courses of Norwich and yelling “get in the hole.”

Caroline Grady

PGA Coach

Caroline has been teaching for 15 years and is a certified PGA coach level 2. She is a former Ladies European Tour player playing alongside the world’s top lady professionals and has amassed a wealth of golf knowledge over two decades.

She still competes but is more focused on sharing her knowledge and helping others improve their golf game. Her passion for teaching allows her to share her knowledge and skills with beginners and established players alike.

  • Amateur Norfolk and East Anglian champion
  • Norfolk’s First Lady golf professional
  • Held a full European tour card for 3 years
  • Top 20 finishes on tour and qualified for 2 British Opens
  • Winner of over 25 east region professional events
  • WPGA Order of Merit winner
  • Ladies Jamega Tour winner

Caroline is a firm believer in absolute correct fundamentals. She encourages every pupil to be aware of their own GASP (grip, aim, stance and posture). After years of teaching and analysing her students, she knows most swing faults can almost certainly be traced back to fundamentals. During her playing career, she has had access to world-class golf instruction. One of the most memorable pointers given to her was from renowned golfer David Leadbetter to simply improve her posture. Caroline realises there are many methods teachers out there and although she respects the newer methods such as stack-and-tilt and the one-plane swing, she emphasises that a golf swing will not work and be consistent unless the foundation is correct. Therefore, strong, solid fundamentals are encouraged and checked every lesson from beginner golfer to champion golfer. Arguably the greatest golfer of all time, Jack Nicklaus, went to his coach Jack Grout at the start of every season and all they ever worked on were the basics. You must find the root cause before you can fix the fault. Caroline enjoys teaching golfers all the standards and is very passionate in helping every student achieve their goal.
